Lorraine Joyce Olynyk (nee Kuxhaus)
It is with sorrow we announce the passing of Lorraine Olynyk on November 20, 2016 at the age of 86 years old.
She is predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Matthew in 2011, grandson Joshua in 2009 and sister Diane Olivier (Alf) in 2015. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory her sons Craig (Lucia) of Owen Sound, ON and Jim (Sandra) of Winnipeg, MB. She also leaves four grandchildren, Craig Jr. (Alyssa), Lauren Jones(Adam), Bradley and Alyssa, and her great granddaughter Harper. She will also be greatly missed by her sister Yvonne Whitehouse (Peter) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lorraine was born in Winnipeg on February 23, 1930. She grew up in West Kildonan and attended Centennial School until she graduated grade twelve. She worked at Clark Papers and then she met the love of her life, Matt. They got married in 1954 and started their family. They moved to Selkirk, MB in 1961 as Matt was starting his pharmacy career. Lorraine and Matt’s faith were strong which lead them to The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd where she became involved with the church’s Ladies Aid. She also had many fond memories as one of the original charter members of the the Selkirk Kiwanians.
‘Nanny’s humour, love and devotion to her husband, children and grandchildren will be cherished by them all and passed on for generations to come. She will truly be missed.
Cremation has taken place at her request. A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 6088 Hwy 9A, Selkirk (south of the Steel Mill), with Paster Erik Parker officiating.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Victoria Hospital and Meadowood Manor for their kindness and support.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Lorraine’s memory to the Alzheimer Society or the charity of choice.
