Loring Clifford Ward – 81, of
Kentville, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2017 in the Valley
Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Tremont, he was a son of the
late Clifford and Louise (Parks) Ward. As a young boy, he worked as a
cook in the logging camp for Varners in South Tremont. In 1957, he
worked as a machinist for Trenton Industries, receiving a certificate
from Canadian Vocational Training. He served as a reservist with the
West Novies in the Canadian Armed Forces and enrolled in a cooking
course in July of 1960. He then worked as a cook in the Mess Hall at
CFB Greenwood. He also achieved a Canadian Army Certificate for
Service in January of 1961. He then worked for Kentville Electric as a
meter reader, retiring in 1998. In his retirement, he enjoyed raising
Min Pins. He was a great carpenter, builder and all around handyman.
He was also an avid coin, stamp, hat and military badge collector and
a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Kings Branch No. 6, Kentville.
Loring enjoyed fishing and all of the sports that the children were
involved in, especially hockey and baseball. He is survived by his
wife, Helen (Noiles); a son, Philip « Tim » Boylan,
Kentville; two daughters, Sherry Benjamin, Kentville; Michelle Kinsman
(David Stevens), Steam Mill; three sisters, Geraldine Hall, Evergreen
Home for Special Care, Kentville; Doris MacIntyre, Trenton, ON; Janet
(James « Jim ») Martin, Tremont; two brothers, Robert
(Jean), Brockville, ON; Fred (Valma), Souris, PE; five grandchildren,
Brandon Benjamin (Annie), Meghan Keizer (Dustin), Mitchell Boylan,
Jordan Benjamin and Leigh Benjamin; three great grandchildren, Ella
Keizer, Ryden Benjamin and Lila Keizer; several nieces, nephews and
cousins. He was predeceased by his first wife, Joyce (Comeau)
(Boylan); an infant sister, Luella; two brothers-in-law, Gordon Hall
and James MacIntyre. Cremation has taken place. There will be no
visitation, by request. A combined Royal Canadian Legion service and
funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 11:00 a.m.
Thursday, November 30, 2017 in the White Family Funeral Home,
Kentville. Burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers,
donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of
Nova Scotia or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have
been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation
Services, Kentville.
