1923 –
2016
Lillian Thompson, wife of the late Arthur
Thompson, formerly of Union Street, Bathurst, passed away at the
Kenneth E Spencer Memorial Home, Moncton on Tuesday, October 25, 2016,
at the age of
93.
Born in Chatham, she was the daughter of the late
Harry and Ethel (Ross) Groat. She graduated from Provincial
Normal School in 1941 and taught in Napan, Russellville and Chatham
until her marriage in
1946.
Lillian will be sadly missed by her son Ross
Thompson (Karen) of Moncton; a granddaughter, Dr. Jennifer Thompson
(Rob) of Derby, UK; two grandsons, Jason Thompson of Moncton and
Matthew Thompson (Meaghan) of Houston, Texas; a precious great
grandson, Drew; and several nieces and
nephews.
Lillian was pre-deceased in 2005 by the love of
her life, husband Arthur. After marrying they settled in Bathurst
where Lillian was an active member of First United Church – she was a
long-time registrar of Elmtree Camp, UCW member, was involved in CGIT
and Sunday school, and enjoyed the weekly quilting
group.
She especially enjoyed times with her family and
friends, recounting many childhood stories from her youth and from the
visits of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed her times with neighbors
and liked watching the children growing up in the Union Street
neighborhood. She was an avid
reader.
Lillian was the last living member of her family,
having been pre-deceased by two sisters, Marjorie and Audrey, and an
infant sibling
Dorothy.
Special thanks to the staff at the Spencer
Memorial Home for the care and compassion shown to Lillian. She
especially enjoyed the times spent with the home’s feathered
friends. Thanks also to those who visited and sent cards during her
stay at the Spencer
home.
Visitation will be at Elhatton’s Funeral
Home, 187 St George St, Bathurst (www.elhatton.com), on Sunday, October
30, 2016 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be
held from First United Church, 309 St Patrick St, Bathurst on Monday,
October 31, 2016 at 1 pm, conducted by the Reverend Blair
Lewis. A reception will be held after the service at the church hall.
Burial will be in the United Church Cemetery, Bridge Street,
Bathurst.
Memorial donations to First United Church,
Bathurst, or to a charity of the donor’s choice, would be
appreciated by the
family.
