Leny Langelaan
1930-2017
Helena ‘Leny’ Theresa Agatha
Langelaan (nee vanHeyningen), of Salisbury passed away unexpectedly in
the Moncton Hospital surrounded by her family on February 4,
2017.
Born June 23, 1930 in Monster, Netherlands, she
was one of 13 children of P.W. and Helena vanHeyningen. She and Gerald
(1928-2003), were married and came to Canada in 1954 where they bought
a farm on the Old Fredericton Road near Salisbury. They developed it
into a successful dairy farm, which continues as Langelaans Holsteins
Ltd.
Family was everything to Leny – she was
so very proud of each and every member of her family (from her father,
down to the most recent great-grandson). She was a full-time
mother, chauffeur, homemaker, gardener, cook, and partner in the
farm. In a time when it was not a given, Leny got her
driver’s licence so that she could get her children to their
extra-curricular activities.
Leny was also active in St Jude’s Parish where she
loved to sing in the choir. In her younger years she and
Gerald enjoyed ballroom dancing, listening to music, traveling, and
just spending time with their family. Since Gerald’s
passing, Leny enjoyed cards with good friends and family, walking with
her friends, Monday Morning Merry-Makers, Rosary Prayer Group, and
swimming with her Aquacize friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Marlene Strang
(Fred) of Fredericton, Margaret Leger (Joel) of Dartmouth; four sons,
Robert of Vancouver, John (Patti) of Riverview, Paul (Rhonda) of
Salisbury, Fred of Salisbury; eight grandchildren; four great-grand
children; her sister Ria (Piet) Persoon, of the Netherlands, and
brother Wil vanHeyningen of Thailand, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leny was predeceased by her loving husband of 49 years, Gerald, eight
brothers (Netherlands and England), and three sisters (Netherlands and
England).
The family will receive relatives, friends and
neighbours at the Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Salisbury Road
(372-4800) on Wednesday, February 8, 6 to 9 p.m. Prayers &
Memories Celebration will also be held at the funeral home on
Wednesday, February 8, at 8:30 p.m. The funeral will take place at St.
Jude’s Church, Salisbury on Thursday, February 9 at 11 a.m. followed
by a reception in the church hall. Interment at Our Lady of
Mercy Cemetery will take place at a later date. The family would like
to thank the staff of the Moncton Hospital ER and the Cardiac
Intensive Care Unit and would appreciate memorials to the Friends of
the Moncton Hospital or charity of choice in lieu of
flowers.
