Leno “Guchy” Volpatti passed away peacefully at Rocky Mountain Village on June 28th, 2017 at the age of 95 years. He was born to parents Giusoppina and Beniamino Volpatti on February 3, 1922 in Michel, British Columbia. He was one of five siblings, having brothers Oscar (Ben), Gino, Johnny, and one sister, Helen.

Although they had no children of their own, they have numerous nieces and nephews who reside across Canada and in the United States. Everyone was always welcome in their home and they enjoyed a busy social life in their younger years.
Guchy will be remembered for his sense of humour and ability to make people laugh. Whether playing cards, board games or just sitting around visiting, those in his company were often smiling or laughing. A visit to Guchy and Ernesta’s home not only included Guchy’s entertainment, but you were also offered one of Ernesta’s delicious desserts which she prepared for him daily. Many fond memories were created when in their company.
Being outdoors was one of Guchy’s greatest pleasures. Whether it was hunting, fishing, picking mushrooms, huckleberries or gardening, he loved to be outside. Many happy years were spent at Loretta’s ‘farm’ in Kragmont gardening, along with the occasional trip to Eurkea for entertainment.
During visits with Guchy, he would reminisce of living in Middletown, or of fishing and hunting trips from his youthful days. Although names and dates would elude him in his later years, all he would need to join into conversation is a little information, and he would complete the story for you.
Guchy supported Ernesta’s business endeavors by helping to build her a new clothing store and doing daily jobs, such as maintaining the coal heater during the cold winter months. He held a number of jobs throughout his working lifetime; delivering bread, construction jobs, working in the mine and finally working for the District of Sparwood Public Works Department.
Guchy lived a full and blessed life, most especially when he had Ernesta at his side. He is survived by his sister Helen Huryn and extended family including numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Ernesta, and brothers Ben, Gino and John.
