Lady Julie died in the emergency ward at the Misericordia Hospital on Sunday, April 2, 2017 approximately fifteen hours after admittance. She is survived by her husband Sir Russell Theodore Irvin Cherneskey, B.Com, TEP, KOJ, of forty-three years and six months, and two siblings Bernadette {Edmonton}, Yvette {Hinton}, and predeceased by Sammy Majeau {Father}, Beatrice Majeau {Mother}, siblings Lawrence {Brother}, and sisters Marguerite, Flore, Antoinette, and Jeanette.
Lady Julie was born on the south shore of Lac La Nonne, Alberta and educated there and at Edmonton Junior and Senior schools and at the University of Alberta Faculty of Education; she is the first and only granddaughter of Octave and Emilie Majeau to receive a University degree.
Lady Julie’s teaching experience was broad in scope and in environment; starting in 1955 her first two years was in a one room school in Brule, Alberta, followed by one year in Hinton, Alberta conducted in a Pulp and Paper Warehouse. In 1958 she started with the Catholic School Board in the City of Edmonton and in 1963 she ventured for one year engagement to the West Indian Island of Dominican teaching West Indian girls the British curriculum under the Belgium nuns which was a unique experience. In 1964 she returned to Alberta and reconnected with the Catholic School Board in the City of Edmonton teaching in various schools including St. Thomas More Junior High open area experimental undertaking and in various capacities until her retirement in June 1988.
After retiring from her successful active teaching profession, Lady Julie initiated a bible study group at Good Sheppard Catholic Church and remained the group leader for the next twenty-eight years until her death on April 2, 2017. Combined with the stated bible study group leadership, she was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church Choir and The Church of Annunciation Catholic Funeral Choir.
In 1995, Lady Julie joined the Edmonton West end Senior Centre initially as a general member and almost instantly becoming the Choral Group of forty singers as the production manager. The Edmonton West end Choral functioned ten months yearly either practicing or performing once weekly; their practice sessions were performed directly in their internal facility and their production sessions were performed in external facilities as Schools, Senior Residence to mention a few. The final annual Choral Group internal production was advertised as “The Night of Music” which was categorized as semi-professional.
Lady Julie has held these positions and receipt: Vice Principal, Department Head, and Teacher; Vice President of Terra Losa Singers; Chairperson of Majeau Reunion Committee, and Honoured for the Major Contribution and Organizer to Majeau Memories 1999.
The pre-nominal “Lady” was automatically confirmed on April 26, 2007 at the investiture of her husband into the Sovereign Order of the Knights of Justice; hence: Sir Russell T I Cherneskey, B.Com, TEP, KOJ and Lady Julie Cherneskey, B.Ed.
A celebration of Lady Julie’s life will be as follows: Funeral Prayers are scheduled for Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Connelly McKinley Funeral Home, 10011 – 114 Street, Edmonton starting at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial shall be celebrated at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 18407 – 60 Avenue, Edmonton scheduled for Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 10:00 AM with viewing of the casket before the celebration {church will be opened at 9:00 AM}. Interment shall follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Cemetery, Lac La Nonne.
