Kenneth George Roland – 2017

FEBRUARY 10, 1937 – JANUARY 11, 2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ken Roland. He passed away peacefully at Sunset Extendicare following many years of living with vascular dementia. Ken was raised on both the farm at Cymric, Saskatchewan and in Govan, Saskatchewan before moving to Regina. He worked for CP Rail as a telegraph operator for several years before joining CJME, (Rawlco), where he worked in sales and sales management for 37 years. Through his work at Rawlco, Ken established some very strong friendships with clients and colleagues across Canada. Ken married Anne in 1959 and together they raised their three children, Michele, Leah, and Grant. Every summer involved a trip to Waskesiu that included cookouts, golfing, and spending time with family and friends. His greatest pride has always been his children and being Papa to his six grandchildren. He enjoyed curling, golfing at the Royal Regina, and participating in the Shriner’s Drum Corps. During his retirement, Ken also enjoyed playing duplicate bridge, spending winters in Victoria, travelling to Alaska, San Fransisco, and the Maritimes, and taking his beloved naps! Ken was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Pat Roland and his parents-in-law, John and Anna Gonczo. Ken leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Anne; daughters, Michele (Randy) Semenchuck and Leah (Lawrence) Biegler; son, Grant Roland; grandchildren, Davis and Cameron Semenchuck, Noah and Zach Biegler, and Hayley and Tyler Roland; sister Diane (Pat) Woods; his aunt, Margaret Roland, his special cousin, Ruth Scott, and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins in the Roland and Gonczo families. The family would like to thank the staff at Sunset Extendicare who consistently provided loving and respectful care to Ken.
Funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Cathedral, 1861 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK, on Monday, January 16 at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Way of Regina, Summer Success Literacy Program, 1440 Scarth Street, Regina, Saskatchewan, S4R 2E9.
