Obituary for Kenneth George Lyster
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ken Lyster on Monday, June 5, 2017 at the age of 68 years. Ken passed away peacefully with his entire family by his side, following a lengthy battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Lorraine; his children Bryan (Claireth), Andrew (Jenna), Jeffrey, and Patrick (Erin); grandchildren Allyson, Caleb and William; and brother John (Eileen). He was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Irene, and his sister Margaret. Ken was born in Killam, Alberta, but lived the majority of his life in Calgary. He spent 50 years working in power line construction and maintenance, a career that he enjoyed immensely. He joined Calgary Power (later TransAlta Utilities) as a summer student in 1967, and remained there until his retirement in 1998. He then opened a consulting company, and continued to enjoy his work for another 18 years. Ken enjoyed travelling with his family and taking in sporting events with his four boys. He always looked forward to his winters spent in Phoenix, and his annual fishing trips with his brother and friends. Ken was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, and will be missed by all. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Prayers at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church (1600 Acadia Drive SE) on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church (1600 Acadia Drive SE) on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 11:00 am with the Rev. Bill Stephenson presider.
