Obituary for Julia McInnes
Julia Ann Morgan McInnes (nee Harris), peacefully passed away Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the Grace Hospital, Winnipeg. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Donald McInnes, her sister, Mary Campbell and her five daughters, Mary McInnes (Rob) of Winnipeg, Donnie Straker (Peter) of Toronto, Margie McConnell (Jeff) of Virden, Sandy Rozecki (Lance) of Oak Bluff and Christine McInnes (Steve) of Toronto and her grandchildren, Jacob and Malcolm Straker, Beth and Alex McConnell, Kailyn and Bryce Rozecki, Elliot, Morgan and Harriet Campbell. Julia was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Caroline Andrews & Joan McCrae, brother Richard Harris and her son, Gordon McInnes. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who all had very special meaning to her.
Julia Ann was born in Winnipeg in 1931 and lived the majority of her life in her hometown. She attended Riverbend and then Bishop Strachan in Toronto before attending University of Manitoba to acquire her Bachelor of Arts with Honours. After graduating she spent 6 wonderful years of teaching in Neepawa and Winnipeg before meeting and marrying the love of her life, Don, in 1960. While she never returned full time to teaching, she spent several years volunteering in Winnipeg School Division tutoring students in math and English. While raising her family of five girls, she always found time to volunteer. Her activities ranged from Meals-on-Wheels, knitting for Canadian Cancer Society annual auction, several years serving as a Brown Owl, teaching Sunday school and supporting multiple arts and charities. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending it at Lake of the Woods with family and friends and going on sunset cruises in her beloved boat, the Idyllese.
It will be Julia’s love of life and her melodic laugh that will be the hallmarks of her legacy. She embraced the world with an educated non-judgmental approach guided by love and God.
We’d like to thank the staff at the Grace Hospital for the comfort and support of Julia and her family.
Julia did not wish for flowers but donations to your favourite charity are welcomed.
