Joyce Ferguson

Joyce Miller (Henderson) Ferguson March 9, 1925 – May 21, 2016 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce Ferguson, wonderful and kind wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Joyce was born and raised in Bathurst, NB. She graduated from Mount Allison University in 1947, receiving a gold medal for the highest grades in Chemistry. She then worked as a lab technician at the Montreal General Hospital, where she met Ken, her husband-to-be. Their first kiss was on the rooftop of the Verdun Protestant (now Douglas) Hospital during a fireworks display. After marrying Ken in 1955, Joyce quit her job and they spent two years in England, before settling in Montreal, and then Guelph, to raise their three daughters. Joyce was a great cook, seamstress, weaver and spinner. She was famous among family and friends for her generous hospitality both in Guelph and at their farmhouse in Meaford. Joyce is survived by her loving husband, Ken; her daughters Anne, Karen and Susan, and their husbands, Gary Ryan, Mike Streitmatter and David McNally; her sister Velma Henderson; and grandchildren Cole, Liam, Lauren, Emma, Sarah, Sam and Adam. She is predeceased by her brother, Hedley Henderson of Oakville. Memorial services will be held at the GILCHRIST CHAPEL – McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph, on Thursday, May 26, at 2 pm, followed by a reception. The family will greet friends and relatives one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, if desired, memorial contributions to Mount Allison University or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. We invite you to leave your condolences and donations online at www.gilchristchapel.com.
