Joyce Mary Collier
On September 19, 2016, Joyce Mary Collier passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family at the age of 85.
She was predeceased by Bill her beloved husband of 63 years in March 2016, her parents Albert and Doris Walker and her nephew Adam Brkic.
She is survived by her son Chris (Cathy), grandchildren Bryan, Andrew and Jill, daughter Lindsay Coumont (Leslie), grandchildren Jenny and David, sister in England Carol Brkic (Vlado), nieces Delma and Lianne and brother Barry Walker, nieces Kim and Sherry and nephews Steven and Simon.
Joyce was born January 14, 1931 and grew up in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, England. She met the love of her life, Bill, in 1949 and they were married in 1952. After starting a family they made the decision to immigrate to Canada, arriving in Selkirk in 1965.
Mum sought employment and went to work for the TD Bank as a teller. Mum wanted to learn to type, however there were no courses available in Selkirk. She pursued the possibilities at the local High School and was instrumental in establishing a night course also starting exercise and yoga classes. After 2 years with the bank she moved to Selkirk General Hospital as secretary to the Administrator. She took a course in Small Hospital Administration through the University of Saskatchewan for which she received her Diploma . She later became the administrator of the Selkirk General Hospital. During that time she was responsible for the planning and building of a new hospital.
Mum continued in that role until she retired in 1984. After retirement Mum began paint in both oils and watercolors and became very accomplished in both, winning prizes at several Art Shows. Mum loved to read, knit, sew, and visit with family and was very proud of her children and grandchildren.
Many thanks to the residents of Cornerstone for their support and love throughout her short time living there. Thank you to Gerri Smith, Gerri, Marie, Janice, Carol, Mary, Myrna and Liz. Mum valued their friendship and enjoyed their times together. Also thanks to the staff of N1S and the Palliative Care Program at Concordia.
Mum spent her last days in her own home where she was lovingly looked after by her family.
As per her wishes there will be no services held. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
