Joseph Pierre Homer Gerald Chauvin – 1948-2017

Joseph Pierre Homer Gerald Chauvin
1948-2017
The unexpected passing of Joseph Pierre Homer Gerald Chauvin
occurred at home on Sunday, April 9, 2017 from CHF. Born May 17, 1948
in Point-Aux-Roches, Ontario, he was the youngest of ten children of
Alphonse and Clarida (Brouillette).
He will be extremely missed by his wife of 34 years, Donna
(Dickinson). He was a Dadoo to two sons, Nicholas and Anthony (Jessica
Bennett). He never really got to know his granddaughter, Charlie
Grace. He will be sadly missed by his brothers and sisters, Agnes
(Isreal) Mailloux of St. Catherines, Ont, Norman of Point-Aux-Roches,
Ont, Lucille Russell of Maple Ridge, BC, Clarence (Rachael) of
Point-Aux-Roches, Ont, and Denis (Paulette) of Windsor, Ont. He will
also be missed by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his
siblings, Louis, Marc, Estelle, and Marcel.
Big Joe (Gerry) joined the RCMP after high school. He
transferred to many spots along the way such as Montreal, Campbellton,
Bai-Ste. Anne, Bouctouche, Port Elgin, Saint John, Grand
Bay-Westfield, and finally retired in Fredericton after 27 years of
service. The next year he became a Park Warden at Mactaquac Park,
retiring from there in 2016. Joe was a jack of all trades. His other
business was « PORK Perfection », roasting pigs on the spit.
(Not all the beer went to marinate the meat)
Joe was always big on family. He was one of the original
planners of the Chauvin Reunion, The Chauvin Flag, the T-shirts, and
the brass candle to be used at Chauvin Functions. He would never want
to miss the Reunion, so he will be there this year as well at the
family mass. He was stopped at so many airports because of his
artificial hip and that family brass candle.
Some of Joe’s favorite things included scotch, jazz
music, and the occasional cigar. His barbequing was the best! He
always enjoyed having friends and family over for meals or calling
passerby’s into the garage for a few rounds of « The
Captain ». If you weren’t up for a drink, there was
always conversation and milk bones for the dogs.
Joe was very proud of his boy’s accomplishments and
always participated with them. He received a lifetime
volunteer’s award from the New Maryland Scouting Movement.
He also received a HUGE Unsung Hero Trophy from the FHS football team
in 2008. He will be remembered for many smelly cigars (to keep the
mosquitos away!) at many a soccer game.
The family would like to invite relatives, friends, and
coworkers to a visitation held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on
Sunday, April 16, 2017 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. A memorial
service will be held on Monday, April 17, 2017 at 2:00 pm at St.
Paul’s United Church with a reception to follow. For those
wishing to make a donation, please consider the Diabetes Society
(please find a cure!) or St. Paul’s United
Church.
Cremation has taken place. Joe wished to be buried with his
other family members in Point-Aux-Roches, Ontario.
