John Wallace Sullivan
1947-2017
RICHIBUCTO, NB – John « Wallace »
Sullivan 69, of Richibucto passed away at his home on Sunday, February
26, 2017. Born in Richibucto, he was the son of the late
William Sullivan and late Mary (LeGoff) Sullivan.
Wallace was known as « the man of many
cards » for he sent out greeting cards daily to friends and
acquaintances across the country from an amazing list of special dates
in peoples’ lives – anniversaries, birthdays,
deaths etc., a list he kept updating
constantly.
Wallace had a varied professional career in journalism and in
the hospitality business. He graduated from a Boston
broadcast college in the early 60’s and worked as a
journalist at the Moncton Times and Transcript, CKCW Radio in Moncton
and as the host of an afternoon TV show at ATV (now CTV) in Halifax in
the 1980’s.
Eventually, he moved into the hospitality business, working
with CP hotels in Jasper, Alberta and at Chateau Halifax in
Halifax. He was assistant manager, as well, with a
restaurant in Waterloo, ON. Wallace lived bravely with
Muscular Dystrophy for the past 30 years. A wonderful
singer, he enjoyed several years performing with a folk group called
« Les Revenant » in his young days and performed
occasionally in recent years with friends John and Cecile
Thompson. Wallace was a gentle, considerate, thoughtful and
intelligent man who touched many people with his kindness in his
wonderful life.
Wallace will be sadly missed by his sister, Joan Robichaud
(Laurie) of Rexton; three brothers, Harris Sullivan (Louise Ongo) of
Moncton, Owen Sullivan (Margie) of Rexton, Sean Sullivan (Mary) of
Richibucto; nieces and nephews, Rick, Dana, Tracey, Amanda, Colleen,
Carrie and several great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Thompson’s Funeral Home
in Richibucto on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm, Friday at 9:00 am
until departure for the funeral. A Funeral Mass will be held
on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 11:00 am, St. Louis de Gonzague Roman
Catholic Church, Richibucto. In lieu of flowers, donations in
Wallace’s memory may be made to Muscular Dystrophy
Canada. Arrangements are in care of Thompson’s
Funeral Home (523-4252).
