It is with profound sadness that I am announcing the passing of my most cherished beloved brother John (my sweet big teddy-bear Johnny). John is survived by his devoted sister Irena Aleknevicius of Timmins, much loved niece Audrey, cousins Rasa, Ieva, and Linas Voronecka of Marijampole, Lithuania and sister Alina of Timmins. Jessie, John’s exuberant loyal dog was always devotedly sitting by his side waiting to be patted by John’s big tender loving hands. Jessie now covets the same spot where John always rested. As a child before the surgery that impacted John’s entire life, he was an athlete and academic superstar. He was an excellent hockey and baseball player. His 7 foot tall frame helped him excel in basketball and he made moves that few could emulate. Had the devastating botched surgery not transpired, John would certainly have made it as a professional basketball player in the NBA. He aspired to being a math professor, which unfortunately, due to the surgery, was unattainable for John. He admirably achieved in getting his 3 year Business Administration diploma and worked full time in the evenings to pay for his schooling and accommodations. John was a mathematical genius and could remember equations and calculations without the use of a calculator or pen and paper. However gifted he was in the aforementioned traits, it held no comparison to John’s quick warm humour which everyone relished. Plain and simple, he made us laugh. John was undaunted by his physical pain and medical issues and continually found the positive side of life. Being vision impaired did not stop him from bowling 3 strikes in a row at the bowling alley with his Intrepid Place friends. John will be remembered fondly by so many friends, loved persons such as Mytreyi Bharadwaj and family, Kathy Pellacci, Ashley Pelletier, Josh, Lucille, members of the Christ Lutheran Church, Intrepid Place staff and especially Sharon Malherb, and Intrepid Place members and many neighbourhood Timmins citizens and retailers. John has broken my heart; he has left me, but I know he is in a better place forever in the loving arms of Our Lord.
A funeral service will be held on Monday June 26, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Pastor Lam. Interment at Timmins Memorial Cemetery, as well as refreshments at Christ Lutheran Church on Spruce St. and Eight in Timmins will follow. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at
