JOE GAUVIN - 1930-2016

JOE GAUVIN 1930-2016 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Joe, 86 of Dieppe, on Tuesday, July 19th, 2016 at the Moncton Hospital. Born in Fox Creek, N.B., he was the son of the late Henri and Anna (nee: Bourque) Gauvin. Early in his career Mr. Gauvin had developed his business & entrepreneurial skills at a very young age while helping his father with the family farm growing fruit and vegetables, then bringing them to market. As he grew older he eventually started his own company called “Gauvin Produce” and successfully operated that business for over 12 years, then eventually sold it. (His company was the first to use plastic bagged apples). During that time he also successfully established and operated a convenience store in Chartersville for 2 years and eventually sold it. Later on it became better known as “Busy B”. Having an interest in the construction industry, Joe proceeded to pursue that challenge and started “Norelco Construction”, he went on to build residential homes successfully in and around the Dieppe area for the next 2 years, establishing Bayview Crt. and Beaumont St., subdivisions. Joe, always thinking of new ideas and innovations developed an interest in the hospitality industry and proceeded to establish “The Rendez-Vous Beverage Room” in which he operated for 2 years. During that time he soon discovered that industry to be highly competitive and unrewarding so he decided to return to his “Roots” (what he knew best) and transformed the building into “Dieppe Produce Mart & Supermarket” as a 2nd location. The first location “Dieppe Produce Mart” was located at the corner of King St. in Moncton. He operated both businesses successfully for the next 6 years, and eventually sold them in 1985-86, he then decided to semi-retire. His passion for produce and his outgoing personality didn’t end there, as he continued to sell fresh strawberries & blueberries during the summer months to local supermarkets right up until 2014. Everyone in the produce business that knew him well, would all agree, that no one understood the strawberry & blueberry business better than Joe Gauvin. He was a loving husband to his wife of 64 years; Eleanor (nee: Stevens) and a loving father to his three children; Debbie (Gauvin) Vincent, (predeceased April 21st, 2015) David, Colleen (Conrad) Clement and a loving grandfather to his two grandchildren Courtney (Jesse Dubberke) of Moncton and Colin (Natalie Durand) of Halifax. He also leaves to mourn, six sisters: Dorothe (late Arthur) LeBlanc, Therese (late Edward) Cassidy, Rosa (late Camillien) Gaudet, Annette (late Paul-Owen) LeBlanc, Andrea (Rene) LeBlanc and Huberte (Bernard) LeBlanc, all of Dieppe, two brothers; Hubert (Yvonne) of Dieppe and Donald of St. Anne, N.B., as well as many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by three brothers; Fernand, Gerard and Euclide and two grandchildren; Cynthia Morrissey and Keith Gauvin. Joe will always be remembered by his family and friends for his great personality, his funny jokes and his warm generosity. You could always count on Joe during times of need to families that were less fortunate. He will also be remembered for his contributions to the local economy, providing many jobs for people and their families over the span of his career. He will sadly be missed but never forgotten. Until we meet again, from your loving family. (We would also like to thank Dr. Dorval and the staff of the Nephrology Department at the George L. Dumont Hospital and Extramural Nurses for their kindness and support) Visitation will be held from the Chartersville Funeral Home, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe (857-1901) on Thursday, July 21st, 2016 from 7 to 9 pm and also on Friday, July 22nd, 2016 from 9 am until time of departure. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Saint-Anselme Roman Catholic Church, Dieppe, on Friday, July 22nd, 2016 at 10:30 am. Interment in the Saint-Anselme Parish Cemetery, Dieppe. If you so desired, donations can be made to The Kidney Foundation of Canada or The S.P.C.A.
