Joan Barnhill of K. E. Spencer Memorial Home, formerly of
Riverview, passed away at her residence on Thursday, April 13, 2017.
Born in Woking Surrey, England, she was the daughter of the late
Phillip and Mary Cooper.
She was schooled and worked in Woking until she joined WAAF
1941-1946. She met Stan (Barney) Barnhill on base. They married in
January of 1945. She came to Canada by boat when discharged in 1946.
They lived in Amherst, then Toronto, returning to Riverview in 1956
and remained there until Joan moved to SNH in 2007.
Predeceased by Barney after 55 years of Marriage in 2000.
Also predeceased by sister Doris. Survived by Daughter Gail Boudreau
(Alec); son Edward (Ulla). Also survived by nephews Brian (Jayne),
Bruce (Sandy) and Byron (Arnolda); niece Anita; as well as her very
special friend, Brenda Condon.
She loved spending winters in Florida with Barney, trips back
to England and she loved animals. She enjoyed doing many different
handcrafts and was a member of the Handicraft Guild in the late
50’s and early 60’s. She also enjoyed motorbike
rides with her son and playing cards with Barney, Gail and
Alec.
In accordance with Joan’s wishes, cremation has
taken place. A service will take place at Cobb’s Funeral
Home Memorial Chapel, 330 Whitepine Rd. Riverview (869-2007) at
11:00am on Thursday, April 20, 2017 with Rev. Liz Wall officiating,
reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations made to K.E.
Spencer’s Nursing Home, Atlantic Wildlife Institute in
Sackville, or a memorial of the donor’s choice would be
greatly appreciated by the family. Condolences may be expressed at
