James Beedie Beattie, age 91, of Cypress House, formerly of the Webb District, passed away August 28, 2017, at Cypress House, Swift Current SK. The memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m., September 2, 2017, from First United Church with Reverend Annette Taylor officiating. The organist was Patti McCleary and the eulogy was read by Melanie Leppa. The ushers were great-nephews, Braiden Leppa, Brandt Leppa and Austen Thick. The interment service was held at Memory Gardens. The honorary pallbearers were everyone who shared in his life. Uncle Jim is survived by one sister, Margaret Roosen from Langley BC, and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Charles Beattie in 1973; his mother, Mary Ann Beattie in 1964; his brother, Stewart Beattie; 5 sisters and spouses, Laura (Jim) Street, Helen (Jack) Tetlock, Annie (Whitney) Hosick, Jennie (Edwin) Thick and Doris Beggs Lloyd (Ezra); by special friend, Beryl Dowdeswell; and numerous nieces and nephews. Uncle Jim attended Seward School from grades 1 – 10, Webb School for grades 11 and 12, and attended Luther College for one year. He was self-employed as a farmer and raised purebred horned Herfords. Uncle Jim was employed by the R.M. of Webb and the R.M. of Saskatchewan Landing as Pest and Weed Control Officer. In 1986, Uncle Jim became the fieldman for District 9, which included 10 municipalities. Uncle Jim was in charge of training people in pest control until his retirement in 1991. He belonged to the Swift Current Singles Square Dancing Club, the Genealogical Society of Swift Current, was an avid bird watcher, and loved going to the Flying K cattle spring sales. The family would like to thank Dr. Sam Bakare and the staff of the Cypress House for the excellent care that they gave Uncle Jim.
