J. E. Carlyle «Bud»
Boran, 93, Springhill, passed away peacefully on
Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care
Centre after a brief illness. Born in Springhill, Bud was a son of the
Late Elbridge and Catherine (McManaman) Boran.
Bud attended Springhill Schools and Acadia University. During
his working career, he worked in the Springhill mines for 14 years as
a hoist driver; two years at the Nova Scotia Hospital as shift
engineer and 29 years with the Penitentary Service retiring as
Engineering Supervisor. He looked forward to spending summers at the
family cottage at Pugwash Point. He was a member of Springhill Baptist
Church; served on Springhill Town Council in 1966; was Chairman of
Cumberland District Planning Commission for 18 years; member of Laurie
Lodge #70 AF & AM. Bud enjoyed sports, and was a die-hard
Maple Leafs and Blue Jays fan. He played hockey for High School,
Baptist Church League and Miners hockey; skating, cycling,
woodworking, walking and very much enjoyed his grandchildren and great
grandchildren.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 71 years, Gertrude
(Nicholson); son, Tom (Deb) Boran of Halifax; daughter, Ruth (Bill)
Spence of Port Howe; grandchildren, Bill, Michael and Jamie Spence,
Andrew, Nicholas and Patrick Boran, great grandchildren, Kyle,
Abigail, Elle, Levi, Hudson, Graydon, Katie, Sara, Quinn, Ashley, and
Cody; a sister, Minerva Boran and a brother, Lowell (Colleen) Boran,
as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Bud was predeceased by a sister, Muriel
Nelson.
Arrangements have been entrusted to A. H. Brown
Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane St., Springhill, (902 597
2361) where visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2017
from 12 pm until the time of the funeral at 2 pm. Interment to follow
in the Hillside Cemetery, Springhill.

Springhill Baptist Church
