J. Claire Murray - 1930-2016

J. Claire Murray 1930-2016 The family of J. Claire Murray, wife of Ralph B. Murray, wish to announce her passing, which occurred on July 14, 2016 at the Church of St. John & St. Stephen Home. Born in Saint John on June 25, 1930, she was a daughter of the late John and Edna (Smith) Malcolm. She will be missed by her husband, Ralph of 60 years; her son John Murray (Jane) of Fredericton; two grandchildren, Jennifer Jagoe (Johnathan) and Andrew Murray; three great grandchildren, Brookelynne, Shayla and Taleia. In addition to her parents, Claire was predeceased by her siblings Gordon, John, Isobel, Lilias Hicks, Margaret Duncan and a niece, Barbara. Claire graduated from Saint John High School in 1947. Prior to her marriage she worked for Dominion Sound Equipment, a division of Northern Electric. Following her marriage in 1955, Claire moved with her husband to Montreal where she became very active in community work. She returned home to Saint John in 1957 and assumed the position of Program Director for the YWCA, a position she held until her return to Montreal in 1959. During the next 25 years in Montreal she was very active in Church Auxiliary and Woman’s Group in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Lachine, the Music Committee of Lachine High School and several years as an Advisor to the Lachine High School «Reach for the Top» Team. Following Claire’s return to New Brunswick in 1984, she and her husband took up residence in Rothesay. She remained active in community work in Saint John serving on the Board of Directors of St. John & St. Stephen Home and an active volunteer in the Church Home Auxiliary. She was also an active volunteer at the Saint John Free Public Library for over ten years and a member of Grace Presbyterian Church. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff and volunteers of the Church of St. John & St. Stephen Home for their compassionate care of Claire during her stay with them. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visiting on Sunday, July 17, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A celebration of Claire’s life will be held on Monday, July 18, 2016 at 11:00 am from Grace Presbyterian Church, 101 Coburg Street, Saint John. In lieu of flowers, remembrances made to the Church of St. John & St. Stephen Home would be appreciated by the family. www.BrenansFH.com
