Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory
Isabella McKnight, 97, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at the Moncton Hospital on November 9, 2017. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, she was the daughter of the late Thomas & Ann (Magee) Rutherford.
Isabella was a war bride, marrying Alfred Kennedy (Ken) McKnight on May 13, 1944. They were married over 59 years prior to Ken’s death November 27, 2003.
Isabella was the Toronto Maple Leafs biggest fan, a passion that began upon her arrival in Canada in 1946. She was also a Blue Jays fan, a founding member of the AHL Booster Club in Moncton, and a member of the War Brides Association.
She loved to travel and she and Ken made many trips to Scotland (one in 1997 included 18 family members), took a bus tour of Europe, and a cross-country road trip to British Columbia, as well as many AHL Booster Club related trips.
Her greatest pleasure was time spent with family at numerous annual celebrations including Robbie Burns Day, Canada Day, and many (any excuse for a family gathering) parties.
She is survived by daughter Sandra Cameron (Bob), sons Joe McKnight (Pierrette) & Jim McKnight (Carol), grandchildren Wendy Batten (John), Kimberly Eagles (Scott), Scott Cameron, Stephanie Miller (Noah), Jessica McKnight, David McKnight & Julia McKnight, great grandchildren Alex Batten (Erica), Laura Batten, Cameron Eagles, Anna Eagles, Tristen Cameron, Victoria Cameron, Emilia Cameron & Stanley Miller, great great grandchild Ava Batten. Also survived by several nieces & nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by sisters Mary Stewart and Nan Pettigrew.
As per her wishes there will be no visitation or funeral. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, November 15 at 2:00PM at Fair Haven Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life at 122 Alexander Ave., Moncton.
In Isabella’s memory donations to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital or Moncton Hospice would be appreciated by the family.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Moncton Hospital and in particular, Dr. Phelan and the nursing staff of the Palliative Care Unit who went above and beyond—you are all truly amazing.
