Irvin Leslie Green

Irvin Leslie Green 1922-2016 On July 31, 2016 at the Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing in Saint John, NB, Irvin Leslie Green, husband of Violet (Bagley) Green of St. George, NB and formerly of Grand Manan, NB passed away peacefully. Born on Grand Manan on September 14, 1922, he was a son of the late A. Leslie and Faye (Forsythe). A loving husband of 66 years to his wife Violet, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he is survived by one son Andrew (Mary) Green of Christopher Lake, SK, one daughter Angela (Darren) Murphy of Bloomfield, NB and grandchildren Anthony, Jody, Alicia, Amanda, Tyler, Joshua and Alexander, as well as great-grandchildren Tristan, Deanna, Keaton, Shannon, Shaia, Marshall and Piper as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Irvin was predeceased by two brothers Walter Green and George Johnson. A Veteran of the Second World War, Irvin began his service to his country on June 26, 1943 when he bravely fought overseas with the Canadian Armed Forces operating a tank with the 5th Anti-Tank Regiment. He took great pride in the role he played in liberating a camp in Holland. He also served in the United Kingdom, Continental Europe and Canada. He received the 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and clasp. He was discharged from the army on March 9, 1946. In 2014, he was awarded the French Legion of Honour Medal, which is the highest honour France can bestow. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 39, Blacks Harbour, NB. Following his service to his country he worked as a lobster fisherman and then worked as a fisheries officer with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. He was the engineer for the Federal Fisheries boats starting with the Gull Light in Seal Cove and retiring on the Cumella in North Head. After retirement he and Violet moved to St. George to start a new chapter of their life. Irvin was a family man who loved to be in the company of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. However, his affection for his wife Violet was second to none and often what many people would call the true meaning of love, dedication and respect. An avid outdoorsman and gardener, Irvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling with friends and family and especially his wife Violet. Irvin was also an animal lover with many pets over the years but adored his last pet a little black dog named Pug who lived for 16 years. In addition, he loved curling and making his special homemade lobster stew for the annual Seiners Bonspiel on Grand Manan, which was always a highlight for everyone. Irvin Green will be fondly remembered by all those he met and whose lives he touched. In Dad and Pappies words “Good Wife-Good Life”. Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home, (755-3533) 26 Portage St., St. George, NB. As keeping with Irvin’s wishes there will be no visiting.
