INGA (INGRID) DEMCHENKO – 2017

INGA (INGRID) DEMCHENKO
August 11, 1936 – February 28, 2017
With her family by her side Inga passed away at Victoria General Hospital after a long and arduous battle with cancer at 80 years of age. She was predeceased by her husband Ben Demchenko in March 29 1993. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Mary Demchenko (John Venesia) and Rosemarie Scott (Doug), and her treasured grandchildren, Benjamin, Cameron and Luke. Also left to mourn are many extended family members. Inga was also predeceased by her long time and close friend Dale Settee.
Inga came to Canada at the tender age of 19, shortly thereafter she married Ben and together they had a long marriage and raised their two daughters. Before she had children of her own she enjoyed her work with children at the Gretta Brown Day Nursery. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and made a few trips back to Germany where she was born. Inga was also predeceased by both her mother and father and is survived by her brothers Peter and Hans, sister Elsie and their families residing in Germany.
Her life revolved around her family, most importantly her grandchildren. She also enjoyed pastimes such as gardening in Portage la Prairie with her sisters and brothers in law, knitting, needle point, crocheting, long walks, bowling and weekly bingo games through Age and Opportunity. Inga put in countless volunteer hours with friends and family making perogies in the church kitchen. She had a generous and caring way about her and loved to fulfill her grandchildren’s wishes for Christmas and birthdays. Inga also loved animals and always made sure her daughters had pets and could never say no to a stray. She had a strong bond with the family’s only dog Nina. Inga was fun loving and had a youthful mischievous spirit.
Later on in her life Inga lived at Carriage House North where she enjoyed the company of other residents in the building as well as bi monthly dinners in the dining hall. This became even more important to her as her health declined and she could no longer enjoy her other favorite pastimes.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Inga’s home care team especially Lucy and Satnam who were especially dear to her.
In addition we would like to thank the staff that cared for Inga at the Victoria Hospital during her lengthy stay. There are no words to express our profound gratitude for your exceptional care and compassion.
Memorial Service will be held on Monday, March 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Inga’s memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
