Obituary
Imelda Leclair died peacefully at the Citadel Care Center, St Albert, Alberta on June 22,2017 at the age of 93 years surrounded by loving family and friends.
Born in St Edouard, a small French Canadian farming community in northern Alberta, to Alonzo and Marie Anne Marcoux. She was the second sibling in a family of 4 children. After high school, she followed her dreams to Edmonton. Mel graduated from Alberta College secretarial school during the war years and got an administrative job with a government agency rehousing war veterans . Inspired, she herself joined the RCAF, the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1946. She was trained and promoted to Air Traffic Controller. Mel was the first female air traffic controller in the Air Force and indeed in Canada as there were no other women in that position in the public airports .
Mel met the man of her dreams Jacques Leclair in the RCAF. Ultimately they married and she retired to raise a noisy, happy family of 5 children and their many friends and several cats.
Her greatest legacy is love, which lives on in her children, friends and all those who d their hearts with her over steaming cups of coffee. She always had a good ear, an understanding heart and a sense of pragmatism which got you back on track. Her light is not diminished by death but shines on forever in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
She is survived by her loving children: Michelle Woollven (Brad), Denise Leclair(F. Graham Sommer deceased) , Richard Leclair, Maurice Leclair, Valerie Leclair (Mark Liguori) and a beloved extended family of grandchildren: Tony Woollven, Lucas Liguori, Zachary Liguori, Hannah Liguori, Jimmy Leclair and loving niece and nephews.
Imelda is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jacques; sisters, Pauline Audette (Roland), Therese Marcoux; brother, Lucien.
The family is thankful for the love and care she received at the Citadel Care Center in her last years.
