Hulda Johnson – 2016

Hulda Marin May Johnson (nee Sigvaldason)
With broken hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Mother, Amma and Langamma at 87 years of age. Hulda is survived by six children: Lori Anne (Garnett), Margaret (Rick), Hilmar (Lisa), Florence (Jim), Robert (Lynette), David (Teresa), 22 grandchildren: Bart, Marty, Stacey, Lindsay, Ben, Daniel, Lauren, Andrew, Katrina, Michelle, Keith, Christina, Ashley, Meghan, Robert, Kaitlin, Janessa, Carrigan, Sara, Ryan, Emily, Owen and ten great-grandchildren: Eric, Darrin, Devan, Ryenn, Kennedy, Conner, Alexander, Demi, Brody and Aubrielle. Also mourning her loss is her brother Steini (Margaret), sisters-in-law Fjola (Stanley), Marlene, Bernice (Fridjon), Sigga, brother-in-law Roy (Pat) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Sigmar, her son Mark, her daughter-in-law Joyce, her brothers and sisters-in-law Palmi and Kristine, Sigmar and Thorey.
Born on May 26, 1929 and raised in Geysir, MB, Hulda graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. She completed her internship at Vancouver General Hospital and worked as a dietician at Winnipeg General Hospital. Hulda and Sigmar were married on October 24, 1953 and began their life together at Osi, their farm in Riverton. Over the years, Mom and Dad, along with their children, cultivated a successful mixed farming operation. Mom was the backbone of her family and the farm. Family always came first! Being with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren was her greatest source of pleasure. A favorite memory was “coffee time”; a time when we gathered at the kitchen table to enjoy Mom’s amazing baking and visit with family and friends. Mom’s door was always open to anyone who stopped by. She established life-long friendships, both at home and around the world. Mom was very active in the community through the Lutheran Church Women and as a 4-H leader.
An internment will be held at the Riverton cemetery on November 22, 2016 at 10:00 am. A memorial service will follow at the Riverton Recreation Centre at 11:00 am. Our heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Arborg Personal Care Home who lovingly cared for Mom over the past few years. Thank you also to the medical staff at the Arborg Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Hulda Johnson to Cancer Care Manitoba or the Riverton Hnausa Lutheran Church.
