Howard John Hewlett Parker
Harold J. H. Parker, 84, formerly of Sackville and Bedford,
NS and more recently of the Greater Moncton area, passed away
peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on Thursday, April 20, 2017.
Born in Halifax, NS, he was the son of the late Richard and
Gertrude (Fletcher) Parker. He was one of the founding members of the
Sackville and District Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a
founding member of the Nova Scotia Firefighters School, where a
building is named in his honour.
Harold retired as the Career Fire Chief of the Sackville Fire
Department, Sackville, Nova Scotia, with over 36 years’
service. He was the recipient of many awards, including the Governor
General’s Award for Exemplary Service. In his younger years,
he was a boxer, wrestler, outdoorsman, poultry farmer, a Fire Safety
Officer with Texaco and a person who was passionate about his family.
Harold also enjoyed camping with his wife, children and grandchildren
across the Annapolis Valley and other points within Atlantic Canada.
Harold will be greatly missed by his children, Donna Wiswell
(Tony), Danny Parker (Lisa) and John Parker (Carrie); grandchildren,
Jamie (Vanessa), Ryan (Grace), Nicole (Forrest), Matthew (Amy), Laura
(Joe), Scott (Danielle), Bradley (Allie), Trisden, Riley, Macabe and
Callum; great grandchildren, Morgan, Teagan, Zachary, Anna, Haley,
Carson, Parker, Bentley, Jackson, Brooklyn, Abigail and Evelyn;
sister, Connie; several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife,
Ada (Starratt) Parker (June 2010) and brothers, Dick, Gordon, Art,
Fred, Bob and Bill.
In honoring Harold’s wishes, there will be no
visitation hours. A small Service of Remembrance for family, friends
and those who served with Harold, will be held at St. John the
Evangelist Anglican Church, 954 Old Sackville Road, Lower Sackville,
NS on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Carson Baxter
officiating. Interment to be held in the church cemetery.
