A Memory Fond and True
Born September 18, 1938 in Baltmannsweiler, West Germany. In 1958 Dad came with his cousin to explore Canada and he loved it here so much, he stayed and became a Canadian citizen. Our Dad settled down in Calgary, working as a bartender/manager at the Sheraton Summit Hotel for a few years, and then he started to work in his trade as a Millwright full time and part time as a bartender/manager at the German Canadian Club.
Dad was a hardworking man and for many years he worked at both jobs, until the German Canadian Club was closed. Dad was a talented musician and his favourite pastime was playing the organ and singing, which he did his whole life. Dad often would play professionally at many different venues, which included the German Canadian Club, Euro Club, weddings and various retirement homes. His music brought great joy to himself and many others.
Dad was a great man, and he was always the one you could count on for anything. Dad also had a soft spot for animals and always enjoyed being around them. He will be missed by his little Nikki, who has been his constant companion for many years. Dad brought joy and happiness to anyone that knew him as his kindness, sense of humour, and generosity would always be remembered. The world has lost one of the best souls and he will be greatly missed by all that loved him.
Herbert is survived by, his loving wife of 30 years, Ingrid Duft, his daughter Tina and son Andrew, Ingrid’s daughter Dian Duft, two grandchildren Alex and Chantal, and his two brothers in Germany, Wolfgang and Wilfried, and their families.
Dad, we’ll always remember that special smile, that caring heart, that warm embrace you always gave us, you being there for us through good times and bad times, no matter what. We’ll always remember you Dad, because they’ll never be another one to replace you in our hearts, and the love we will always have for you, we will miss your joking ways, we will miss the things you used to say. All the old times we do recall, it’s then we will miss you most of all. Just a memory fond and true in our hearts, you will live forever, because we thought the world of you.
