Glen Reginald Lester
Dad passed away at the age of 86 years, on December 20, 2017 at his home in his beloved Victoria Beach where he grew up, married, raised his family and enjoyed the beautiful world that God created. Predeceased by his precious son Rex Ferrade; brother Bert Trainor; sisters Ellen Whyte (Walter), Vernon Lee and Marina Chapel. Survived by his wife Betty;brother Lorne (Anne); sister-in-law Helen Trainor; brother-in-law Jim Chapel; brother-in-law Cyril Ervick (Blanche); children Glenda (Rory), Hope (Alan), Glenn and Gaye (Brian);grandchildren Stephen (Candace), Eric (Katie), Sarah, Matthew, Jason, great grandchildren Atia, Lucas and beloved nieces and nephews.
As a young man he was known for singing with his sister Marina at the Victoria Beach Clubhouse. He met his wife of 63 years, Betty, while delivering firewood to cottages, took her on their first date to the Moonlight Inn and would often regale the story of “how I met your Mother” with great fondness. Dad had a strict work ethic, a strategic mind for business and became very successful during his 50 years in the extremely challenging field of mink ranching. His retirement was taken up by his massive garden, puttering in the yard, boat trips to Elk Island for blueberry picking and enjoying the company of his family.
Dad was a master storyteller with memories from his childhood coming to life in animated humour. Many people would see Dad out walking toward his favourite trail to the “Cliffs” that became known to some as “Glen’s Trail”. He loved to stop and visit with relatives and old friends on his way back along the road.
Glen’s personal goal was to see all of his children educated and living happy, productive lives. We thank you Dad for your moral teachings, your love and forgiveness, devotion and generosity of spirit which we will forever cherish as the embodiment of who you were.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 28 at 1:00 p.m. in the St. Michael’s Church, Victoria Beach, MB with interment to follow in the Victoria Beach Cemetery.
