Obituary
Born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on May 12th 1923, Gilbert Joseph Lemire passed away peacefully on January 3rd 2017 at the age of 93.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews: Alice, Thérèse, Paul (Brenda), Giselle, Guy (Dominique), Arlette (Grant), Julie, Louis (Francine), Gilles; his brother-in-law Roland Marcotte’s children: Viviane, Gérald, Richard, Liliane et Gisèle; great nieces and nephews: Gatëane Cullen, Darcy Cullen, Lucretia Cullen, Charles Lemire, Suzanne Laird, Ariane Lemire, Riel Campbell-Lemire, Christine Laird, Viviane Lemire, Jozel Lemire, Bridget Laird, Carline Lemire, Anita Gagné-Lemire, Daltry Rose Campbell-Lemire, Catherine Lemire, Gent Laird, Véronique Gagné-Lemire; as well as great, great nieces and nephews. He also held a special place for Roger L’Heureux and his daughter Jaslyn, as well as the many people whose lives he touched and to whom he was also Uncle Gilbert or Mononcle.
He was predeceased by his parents, Bruno Lemire and Philomène Blanche Nadeau; siblings: René, Raymond (Marie-Rose), Roch, Paul, and sister Claire (Roland Marcotte).
A gentleman bachelor, farmer, driver, choir singer, square dancer, and bridge player, Gilbert was an active member of Edmonton’s French and English communities.
Prayers for Gilbert Lemire will be held Friday January 13th at 7:00 p.m. at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home, 10011-114 Street, Edmonton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday January 14th at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas D’Aquin Parish, 8410-89 Street, Edmonton. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, 4804 Meridian Street, Edmonton.
