Obituary for Gertrude Louise « Gertie » Broderick (Little)
Broderick; Gertrude Louise “Gertie”(Nee Little)
Passed peacefully with her family by her side at Campbell House Hospice on Christmas morning, formerly of Maxwell in her 97th year. She is reunited with her beloved husband Morris(2009). Loving mother of Sheila Shears of Collingwood, Gwen(Jack) Zeggil of Bowmanville and Nancy(John) Seymour of Ravenna. Loved and remembered by her grandchildren Corey(Shelley) Shears, Carla(Ted) Hewitson, Scott(Melissa) Shears, Jeff Zeggil(Dawn Russell), Julie Sumner, Trisha(Vaughn) Primeau, Ashley(Kevin) Moulton and great grandchildren Savanah, Carlos, Emma, Colby, Eli, Sophie, Garrett(Ashley) Russell, Seirra, Cole, Justine, Morgan, Hannah, Norah and Lilah. Special great great grandmother to Abbey. Predeceased by her brothers Edwin and Stanley Little.
Gertie was born in Osprey township to William and Hannah Little on April 27, 1921. As a young adult she convinced her parents to let her move to the city, starting off working as a domestic for families cleaning and cooking, then to at Inglis Munition Factory during the second World War and then Campbell’s Soup Factory. She met and married the love of her life on June 24, 1944 in Dundalk, Ontario. Gertie and Morris raised their children on a farm; first in Dundalk and then Maxwell. She loved crafting, her quilting, knitting, baking pies but most famous for her biscuits. She took great pride in her involvement in the community; the UCW in Maxwell, the young at heart seniors and on Morris’ bowling team. Most summer time was spent at the cottage, where all family and friends were welcome. A fierce and quiet Euchre player, but above all time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her most joy. Gertie was a kind and humble person, usually staying in the back, watching all that was going on, not saying much but always thinking.
The family will receive friends at the Fawcett Funeral Cremation Reception, Flesherton on Thursday, December 28 from 4:00-6:00pm and again on Friday from 11:00-12:00noon. Funeral service from the funeral home chapel on Friday at 12:00noon. Interment Maxwell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Collingwood General & Marine Hospital or Campbell House Hospice, Collingwood would be gratefully appreciated.
