Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Gertie Gibeau of Edmonton, announces her peaceful passing at the age of 84 years. A devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, Mom always put her family first. A graduate of the Edmonton General Hospital School of Nursing in 1953, Mom worked as an RN at the Edmonton General Hospital for a year before pausing her career to raise her five children. Later with the children all in school she returned to nursing, using her compassionate bedside manner at the Misericordia Hospital Day Surgery Unit to make patients’ surgery experiences more comfortable. Upon retirement, Mom and Dad wintered in Yuma, Arizona for 13 years until prevented by health concerns.
Gertie will be lovingly remembered by her children, son Robert (Mirella) and grandchildren Vanessa and Alex; son Larry (Kerry) and granddaughters Janet (Greg) Horton, Sarah, Debbie (Chris) Ciazynski, and Linda (Ron Laverdiere); daughter Elaine (George) Campbell and grandchildren Kevin (Amanda), Laura and Diana (Daniel) Lint; son Dennis and grandsons Jesse, Daniel, and Zachary; son Claude (Linda) and granddaughters Jacqueline (Tom) Lemoine and Rachel; great-grandchildren Darren and Alex Horton and Grace and Amelia Campbell; siblings, Marguerite (Jack) McLaren, Francois (Lois), Mark (Ruby), and Madeleine (Neil) Cowen; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Gertie was predeceased by Romeo, the love of her life and husband of 61 years; parents Alfred and Orida Meunier; sister Cecile and brothers Jean Louis, Paul, Laurent, Jacques and Gerard.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home, 10011 – 114 Street, Edmonton on Tuesday January 31, 2017 at 10 a.m.
The family thanks the doctors and nurses of the Misericordia Hospital for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chronic Pain Association of Canada or other charity of your choice.
