Gerald Andy Andrew Power - 1954-2017

Gerald « Andy » Andrew Power
1954-2017
It is with great sadness and deep gratitude for his life that
Andy’s family announce his passing. Always committed to each of his
roles, Andy was first and foremost devoted to his family. Kathy, his
wife of over 36 years, provided the support that enabled Andy to
pursue his goals. His children were a constant source of joy and
pride: Michelle Kimball (Andrew) and granddaughter Vivian, Michael
(Cheryl), Aaron (Alysha), Jordan, and Alison (Mitch).
Andy had a passion for exploring, first ignited with his
participation in Boy Scouts and Venturers, and then fuelled by his
profession as a registered Professional Geomatics Engineer and a
Canadian Land Surveyor, which took him around the world. He loved his
work and always expressed his admiration for the people he met and the
relationships formed throughout his career. He regaled
family and friends with stories of his extraordinary experiences,
first with McElhanney, then Jacques Whitford and, most recently, as
the President of EM&I Stantec, where he was highly respected
and was considered by all to be a strong leader and a greater mentor.
In recent years, his family shared new adventures as he led them
through Europe and the USA. Andy’s outlook on life was always
optimistic. From a young age, he practised meditation and believed in
the power of positive thinking. A man of the grand gesture (and
grander moustache), he loved firework displays and obtained
certification, which enabled many pyrotechnic
extravaganzas.
Andy was predeceased by his parents, Gerald and Sylvia, and
brother Jimmy. He is mourned by his wife and children, his sisters
Judy Glennie (Ray) and Marybel, his parents-in-law, Ed and Isabel
Walter, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Andy leaves a legacy of
love – his family, colleagues and his many friends will miss him
greatly.
The funeral service will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home,
160 York St., Fredericton, on Monday, October 30th, 2017 at 1:00 pm
followed by a short reception. An informal celebration of Andy’s life
will be held at the Wetmore-Street Pub in New Maryland on October 30th
at 7:00 pm. A private family interment will take place. For those who
wish, donations in Andy’s memory can be made to the Dr. Everett
Chalmers Hospital Foundation or a charity of the donor’s
choice.
