Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory Of George
George Reynolds Stacey, 93, died Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Trillium Health Center in Mississauga.
George leaves behind his wife of 69 years, Mavis Anne Stacey (Dorcas), his sons; David, Michael, John, Jim and Bob, their wives Audrey, Vivian, Marion, Diane and Melinda. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren; Amanda, Jennifer & Audra, Melissa & Derek, Nicholas & Alexa, Kristan & Megan & Samantha and 10 great grandchildren; Abigail & Emma, John & Sara, Simon & Tomo & Nola, Violet, Ellis & Gibson. George is joining his father Wesley William Stacey, mother Helen Marie Reynolds, brother William and sisters Lillian and Edna.
Although it began in Sydney, Nova Scotia and ended in Mississauga, Ontario George lived for most of his life in Beaconsfield, Quebec. A small bungalow on an unassuming street will always be home to many of us who look back on fond memories.
In his early years, George worked in a saw mill and steel plant in Nova Scotia. After graduating from The Faculty of the Provincial Normal College in Nova Scotia in 1945 he moved to Montreal to start his teaching career. It was in Montreal that he met his wife, Mavis. In 1948 they were married and were happily married until the day George passed away.
George taught at several schools during his tenure with the Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal. The later half of his career was spent at Sir Winston Churchill High School. George was known as ‘the great white owl’ due to his 6’3” stature, his white hair and his wisdom. George was a tough teacher but was very well respected by his peers and students. I remember many occasions when a former student would stop my dad at the shopping mall and thank him for his guidance during those formative years.
George lived his life simply, he did not need a fancy car or holiday. He preferred to find happiness with his wife, raising their children and sharing an evening with friends. George was an avid lawn bowler and curler and enjoyed these activities to the fullest. He was a master craftsman and dabbled in painting and poetry. His inspiration came from life’s simple pleasures; his beloved dog Sultan, a cold beer, good friends and his loving family.
Most of all, George was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, son and friend. His life shaped so many other lives and will continue to do so long into the future. His love and wisdom as a father will be passed down from generation to generation.
We miss you.
