Suddenly at age 85, beloved husband of the late Patricia Derynck. Loving father of Brian (Manuella), David (Debbie McNamara), Patricia, Marie (Ian Wylie), Tim (Donna Zdunich), Tatiana (Bernard Le Grand). Proud grandfather of 22 and great-grandfather of 2. He is survived by brothers Leo (Maureen), Dan (Diane); sisters Oksana (Jim Fish), Josie (Norm Woods), as well as many nieces, nephews. Pre-deceased by brothers Borden, Igor; sisters Judy Blackwell, Tatiana Schutz. Born in Winnipeg in 1927, grew up in Ahunsic, served in the Royal Merchant Navy during WWII, played football for the McGill Redmen and Montreal Alouettes. Paddled at Cartierville and was Canadian 5x single-canoe champion at 1,000 meters, won the North American singles championship in 1958 and represented Canada at the Olympics in Helsinki (1952) and Melbourne (1956). A great coach and motivator George coached football and helped make the Cartierville Boating Club a national powerhouse in the 1950’s and 1960’s. He pursued business interests across North America. He was never shy to take on a new challenge, no matter how big, how far, or how different it may have been! George was an inspiration to many and will be sorely missed. Visitation at J.J.
