Frank Rusling 1922-2016 Frank Rusling age 94, of Lorneville – beloved husband, father, grand-father, and friend to many – passed away peacefully on August 6, 2016 at Ridgewood Veterans Wing in Saint John, N.B., with his wife and members of his family by his side, after a period of declining health. Born in Belton, Lincolnshire, England on January 30, 1922, the son of Charles and Nellie (Sporton) Rusling, Frank was raised in the farming country of Suffolk County. In 1937, at the age of 15 years, he enlisted in the Royal Navy Boys Service, where he specialized in signals training. At the outbreak of World War II, he served as a signalman on HMS Sheffield and quickly rose in rank to Yeoman of Signals. He also served on HMS Manxmann, and HMS Kimberly among other vessels, and was in active operations in many theatres throughout the war, including the Relief of Malta in 1941-1942. Frank continued in Naval Service until 1947 when he joined the British Police Service, first in Newcastle City, and later in the Suffolk Constabulary. In 1957 Frank immigrated with his family to Canada and joined the Canadian Pacific Police Force. He first settled in Montreal and was active with the company Force for most of the next 30 years, living in Montreal and also in Saint John, N.B. Frank retired from CP in 1987 and for a time was engaged with private security services in Saint John. In his retirement, Frank entered a new phase of life with his wife Elsie, and her family. He became active in the community of Lorneville, and volunteered with a number of fraternal organizations and community groups including Lorneville United Church, Lorneville and Seaview Cemeteries Inc., the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 69) and Orange Order. He became a grandfather figure in his adopted family and maintained an active lifestyle for many years. He loved to garden and worked hard maintaining home and property in Lorneville. He was a proud former member of the Naval Service and active member of the Legion, and he never missed a Remembrance Day Service with his friends and colleagues, He delighted in family and community gatherings, large and small, especially when younger members would be present. Frank is survived by his wife of 26 years, Elsie (Maguire) Rusling of Lorneville; daughters, Brenda Jefferson of Vancouver, BC, and Jennifer Becque (Derek) of Simcoe Ontario; step-sons Shayne Galbraith (Dawn) of Saint John, Steve Galbraith (Peggy) of Little Lepreau, and Scott Galbraith (Linda) of Lorneville; grandchildren David Jefferson of B.C., Ted Paulmert (Janice Davidson) and Sherry Paulmert (Darryl Bedford) of Simcoe; step-grandchildren Deanna Allen, Ryan, Danny, Laura, Katrina, and Sarah Galbraith; great grandchildren Kelsey and Tyler Paulmert; Justin Bedford; Ethan and Carter Allen and Jax Galbraith; numerous cherished nieces, nephews, cousins in England and France; and extended family members. In addition to his parents, Frank is predeceased by: sisters Winnifred and Rose; and brothers Bernard, Geoffrey, and Peter. He was the last remaining member of his immediate family. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John, NB (634-7425). Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Frank’s life, which will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 2:00 pm in Brenan’s Bay View Chapel. A private interment will take place at a later date.
