It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Frank Long, age 81, on Saturday, February 25th, 2017, at Northside General Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Born on May 12, 1935, Frank was the son of the late Thomas and Margaret (Phalen) Long, Bras d’Or. He resided in Sydney Mines, and was a member of Holy Family Parish.
Until his retirement, he worked as a carpenter, a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 1588, Cape Breton. For many years, he proudly operated ‘A & F Bicycle Repair’ on Fraser Ave, Sydney Mines.
Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his sister Eileen (David) Lyle, Bras d’Or, sons Frankie (Shirley), Sydney Mines, Albert (Holly), Guelph ON, daughter Donna Marie (Travis) Marinelli, George’s River, grandchildren Kristyn, Jordan, Keghan, and Chelsey Long, Madeline, Molly, and Gracie Marinelli, great-granddaughter Eden, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Rose Marie (Dalton), sister Leona (Lloyd) MacLeod, and brothers Tom, and Russell (Catherine).
The family would like to express thanks to Dr. Kirkpatrick, and the nursing staff of 4 West for their compassionate care of Frank and our family.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at 10:00 a.m., in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Father Jim Oliver officiating. A reception will be held in the parish hall afterwards. In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank’s memory may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Center, or a charity of one’s choice.
