Obituary of Francis Granger
Francis Edmund Granger passed away in the Hardisty Hospital on November 21, 2017, at the age of 77 years.
He was born on September 29, 1940, in the family farmhouse, south of Ohaton. He attended the Horicon & Bawlf schools completing grade 9.
On February 10, 1961, he married his “high school sweetheart”, Jennifer (Jenny) Bakke. To this union two sons were born, Dwight and Dennis. The first years were spent on the family farm. The family later moved to Camrose where Francis started his Automotive Mechanic Apprentice with Glatiotis Ford. He received his Interprovincial ticket in 1968.
Francis moved his family to Hardisty in 1969, where he practiced his trade at several different locations and became a very active community member. He was the Hardisty Fire Chief, a Legion Member, fastball coach, and was active in the annual Hardisty Stampede. His involvement with hockey was the highlight of it all. He loved watching his boys, and later his grandson Dan play.
He and Jenny attended the Ponoka Stampede faithfully, missing it for only the second time this past year.
Travel was a joy, along with camping, and sightseeing with family & friends in Canada and the United States. Winning a trip through Husky in 2002, enabled them to travel to France and England where Jenny was able to visit her birthplace.
Retirement came in 2004, and Francis loved to visit. He enjoyed “coffee row” where, with his buddies, many of the world’s problems were solved on a daily basis.
Francis is survived by Jennifer, his wife of 56 years. His Son Dennis (Lori), and daughter-in-law Lorna. His grandchildren Dan (Bobby), Megan (Nathan), Clinton (Eileen), Cordell, Athena, & great-grandchildren Lylee, Lucas, and Aria. He is also survived by his brothers Ed (Carol) and Marvin (Ardis), his sister Marlene (Don), and his brother-in-law Jeff (Rhonda), along with numerous nieces, nephews, family & friends.
Francis was predeceased by his parents Frank and Lillie, his mother in law Nellie Bakke, and his son Dwight.
Things will be a rumbling up above as he now attempts to solve heavens problems! You will be forever loved and missed by your family and friends.
Memorial donations can be made to the Hardisty Hospital Auxiliary or a charity of one’s choice.
At Francis’s request, there will be no Memorial Service.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Francis
