Dixon, Frances Margaret
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Frances Margaret Dixon at the grand age of 92 on January 23, 2017 at the QEll Health Sciences Centre, Halifax NS.
Mom was born in Fredericton, NB, on January 17, 1925, to the late Mary Ellen (Clark) and Henry Larkin Bishop. The youngest of 6 siblings, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by the love of her life, Hazen Eugene Dixon, after 48 years of marriage, in December 1992; brothers Allan and Clowes, sisters Edna, Betty and Joyce. A brother, Addison, died in infancy.
Mom grew up and went to school in Fredericton, NB. She went to Business School to become a secretary and went on to enter the work force. Since it was war time, she landed a job, not as a secretary, but as a welder in the Aircraft Plant in Amherst NS.
On October 25, 1944, she married the love of her life, our dad, Hazen Eugene Dixon and moved to Saint John NB. While living in Saint John, Mom worked in the retail sector at Calps Department Store, where she thoroughly enjoyed meeting all the people she came in contact with.
In 1957, our now family of four left their native New Brunswick when dad was transferred with his job to Shelburne, NS. Nova Scotia became our home province; meeting people and making friends from one end of the province to the other and then back to the middle, moving from Shelburne to Yarmouth to Sydney, then Dartmouth, before setting down real roots when mom and dad purchased a home on Lister Drive in Bedford. She continued to work in retail after moving to Bedford at the Village Boutique, Sunnyside Mall, Bedford, NS and Wood ‘n Doll, Downsview Mall, Lower Sackville, NS.
Those who came to know mom soon realized that she was a “Social Butterfly”. No matter where she lived she loved to be involved in many different clubs and organizations. She was an original member of the Bedford Lawn Bowling Club, member of Bedford Leisure Club, Sackville 50+ Club, Silver and Gold Club of Sackville, member of Bedford Legion, Branch 95 Auxiliary for 15 years and a 29 year associate member. In her younger years she was a member of IODE and Kinettes.
Mom was an avid crib and bridge player for many years. She looked forward to having the “girls” in for a table of bridge, crib with friends at the 50+ Club or playing a Bridge Tourney on her computer with her many internet bridge friends from all over the world……she just loved playing cards and meeting people!!
A very special thank you to Dr. Brian Ashton for taking such good care of our mother. She would say over and over again what a wonderful doctor you are!!
Mom, you will be missed; loved always, and forever in our hearts ……
Surviving are her daughter, Carolyn (Michael) Parsons, Lower Sackville and son, Bill (Kathy), Middle Sackville; 5 grandchildren, Scott and Todd Hill, Andrea (Hill) Johnston; Jason and Tina Dixon; 5 great-grandchildren, Kayleigh and Emma Hill, Owen and Eamon Johnston and Rebecca Hill, many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 26th, 2-4; 7-9 at Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville, NS. Funeral service will take place at All Saints Anglican Church, Bedford Highway, Bedford, NS on Friday, January 27th 11am. .
Burial will be at Oakridge Memory Gardens, Old Sackville Road, Lower Sackville. Memorial donations may be made to All Saints Anglican Church, Bedford or Kidney Foundation of Canada, Atlantic Canada Branch. Online condolences may be sent to www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com Sackville Chapel.
