Ernest Robin Hovind

Ernest Robin Hovind

With pain in our hearts, the family of Ernest announce his passing on Thursday, May 4, 2017, just 41 days shy of his 94th birthday. It is comforting to know that he passed away peacefully at home in his recliner with Mom and Annette by his side.
Ernest was the youngest of four boys born to Hilmar and Margaret Hovind on June 14, 1923 on the farm near Summercove, now known as McCord, SK.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers Richard (Elsie) Hovind, George (Louise) Hovind and Walter (Edith) Hovind; in-laws Alex and Isabel Kostiuk; two brothers-in-law; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and friends.
His memory will forever be cherished by his wife Beatrice (nee Kostiuk) of 63 and a half years; children Wesley (Diana) Hovind, Martin Hovind, Annette Hovind and Shonna (Eugene) Roscoe; grandsons Ben Roscoe (Meghan Volb), Matthew Hovind, Brennan Hovind (Karen Ward) and Kelly Hovind (Elyse Edwards); great-grandchildren Cole Brittner (Roscoe) and Madison and Nathan Roscoe; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ernest was ten when his family moved to the Wishart area. Ernest joined the Navy at the age of eighteen and served in WWII. He really didn’t like to talk of those years, but would answer any question we would ask. Ernest was a farm hand in the Wishart area where he met his wife Beatrice. After marrying, they worked on a farm in the area until moving to work for a farmer in Pense, SK. He would have loved to have his own farm, but circumstances did not allow this to happen. Ernest moved his family to Regina in 1963 where he worked for Tremaine Moving. After hurting his back moving a piano, he went on to work at the Regina RCMP Training Depot as a Machine Driver Operator/Grounds Keeper until his retirement in 1986.
Ernest was an avid carpenter and over the years made many things, some of which were a wall-to-wall china cabinet for Mom, toy kitchen cupboards for Annette and Shonna as well as a few nieces, and kitchen cupboards at the home of a friend. He was passionate about horses all of his life, after retiring he built/restored a democrat and two buggies. Ernest’s greatest pleasure was when his family was over, whether it be for a celebration or even just a quick stop in to say hi.
Ernest… husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law… you will be missed beyond measure… but never forgotten!
A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at Regina Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4001 East Victoria Avenue, Regina, SK on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with viewing starting at 1:00 p.m.
