Elsie Betty Matsalla
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Elsie Matsalla. Elsie was born on December 17, 1937 in Canora and died on December 28, 2017 at Grace Hospice at the age of 80 years. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Bernie; her parents Peter and Pauline Shinkewski; her sister Stella Eskra and her brother Orest Shinkewski. Elsie started her health care career in Invermay before moving to Regina. She worked for Extendicare Parkside for over 35 years and after a short retirement, continued her service with We Care. Elsie enjoyed the warm summers where she would spend hours caring for her yard. Neighbours and friends would receive bouquets of flowers to show her love for their companionship. Friends and family were lucky to share in her love of cooking and baking. She would try any recipe you gave her especially if it had lemon as an ingredient. Elsie will be deeply missed by her children Allan (Sherri); step grandsons Jesse, Aaron and Cody; Shelley (George); sister Eileen (Ray) Shaw of Yorkton; brother in law Mike Eskra; sister in law Lena (Steve) Poterieko; nieces, nephews and many friends. There will be a private family interment at a later date. The family wishes to thank the wonderful and caring staff at Regina Wascana Grace Hospice.
