Elizabeth Sylvia Moisiuk - 2016

July 23, 1932 – September 25, 2016
Elizabeth died peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, September 25, 2016 at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre after suffering a series of strokes. She was 84.
Elizabeth started life in Admiral Saskatchewan, but grew up on a farm outside of Regina. She married her sweetheart, Trian John Moisiuk, at a young age and the two of them worked together to realize many of their dreams. She embraced her role as homemaker in the 50’s and 60’s having a lovely productive garden, baking treats, canning in the fall, and marking all special occasions in the life of Trian and her children with a celebration. Elizabeth became a wonderful seamstress sewing many an outfit for her daughters. Loving music, she encouraged her three children in their participation of many musical endeavours.
She became involved with the Regina Lion’s Bands and took on roles such as social convener, and opened her home to billet band members coming to Regina from afar. A staunch believer in education for both boys and girls she supported her children’s career choices in the fields of nutrition, medicine and architecture. She assisted Trian with their rental properties and after his untimely death was the property manager.
In 1972 Elizabeth joined the Singer Sewing Company of Canada. This was a natural fit for her and she thoroughly enjoyed her time in sales, giving demonstrations and instruction on the sewing and knitting machines. When Singer chose to market though Eaton’s, Elizabeth was instrumental in integrating the Singer product line into the Regina Eaton’s sewing department.
In 1985 she changed paths and joined the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration, a branch of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. She found it interesting and continued with this department until worsening osteoarthritis forced her to retire in 1996.
Photography was a passion of Elizabeth’s. The family knew that every event would be duly recorded. Later in life she joined a photography club and was proud to have some of her photos win local competitions. She was delighted to have her photo of the Saskatchewan Pavilion at Expo 1986 displayed at the Regina Airport.
In keeping with her strong Christian faith she became a Stephen’s Ministry counsellor under the supervision of the late Venerable Gary Paterson at All Saint’s Anglican Church. She had fun volunteering for the annual fall turkey dinner fund raiser, and took her turn on the Vestry. Being an outgoing person, she enjoyed her time as a church ‘greeter’.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her dear parents Dora and George Buhni; her loving husband Trian John Moisiuk in March 1972; and her infant grandson, Robert Colin Light in 1978.
She will be greatly missed by her children: Eunice and William (Bill) Misskey and their children, Bennet Misskey (Patty Miller) and Dr. Jonathan Misskey (Anna Maslany) of Vancouver; Dr. Sharon Moisiuk and Dr. Bruce Light and their children, Whitney Light, Mallory Light (Geoffrey Gunn) and Robert J. Light, all of Winnipeg; and David and Susan Moisik of Victoria, BC and their children Ryan (Jessica) Bruhn Moisik of Calgary and Dr. Scott Moisik (Carly Jaques) of Singapore.
The family would like to acknowledge the excellent, compassionate care given to our mother and grandmother on Main 6, Wascana Rehabilitation Centre. We thank Dr. Bester and all the staff for their support to Elizabeth and us over the past three years.
A Celebration of Elizabeth’s Life will be held at All Saints Anglican Church, 142 Massey Road, Regina SK on Friday, September 30, 2016 at 10:30 AM.
If friends so desire, donations in memory of Elizabeth may be made to the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre Unit Main 6, 2180 23rd Avenue, Regina SK S4S 0A5 or to a charity of their choice.
