Obituary for Eleanor Wilson
It is with sadness we announce the passing of a dear sister and aunt, Eleanor Mae Wilson (nee Blodgett) on Sunday, June 18, 2017. Eleanor was born July 11, 1940 and spent her early years at Heaslip, Manitoba. She took her schooling at Riverside School, Minto and St. Michaels Academy in Brandon where she graduated with a commercial course certificate in 1959. Eleanor began her working career at MTS but following a car accident involving damage to her neck, was no longer able to do desk work. She then worked at Phipps Jewelers which she purchased in 1970. She and John also leased a gift shop at Clear Lake which they ran for several summers. A few years later Eleanor was able to return to MTS and worked in several positions out of Brandon and Winnipeg. Through their early married life John and Eleanor were members of a car club and also enjoyed traveling and cruises. She had a wonderful time on a European river cruise in 2014 where she met many new friends especially from Australia. Due to John’s failing health, Eleanor chose to take early retirement in 1995 and they moved from Brandon to Minto. Here she was a regular at the drop-in most days and was also instrumental in the establishment of the Minto restaurant. In August of 2014, Eleanor moved from Minto back to Brandon into The Towers. Experiencing some health issues, she moved into an apartment complex in 2016 where she had daily assistance with housekeeping/meals/laundry. Wanting a bit more independence, once she had regained her health, she moved back to The Towers in March of 2017. Towards the end of May she was again experiencing health issues and sadly passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017. Eleanor loved animals but especially pussy cats, and many shared the Wilson home throughout the years and she was a faithful supporter of a cat rescue charity at Neepawa and area. Eleanor leaves to mourn her sister Dorothy Tegg (Jim) of Neepawa, her niece Marie Giesbrecht (Alan) of Fairfax, three brothers-in-law David of Brandon; Don (Gloria) of Ottawa; Elgin and Partner of Toronto and sister-in-law June Thomson (Lorne) of Winnipeg, one aunt, several cousins and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents John Blodgett (1953) and Ada Blodgett (nee Robertson) (1980) and her husband John Wilson (1999). A private graveside service took place on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at the Minto Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Glenn Ball officiated. Donations in memory of Eleanor may be made to Cats TNR and Rescue, Box 7, Riding Mountain, Manitoba R0J 1H0.
