E. Lorraine Haslett
1936-2017
With profound sadness Shelly Fowlie (Darell) and Brenda Breen
(Peter) announce the death of their mother, E. Lorraine Haslett (nee
Craig) on Monday February 20. Predeceased by Carl,
her husband of 50 years, Lorraine was the proud grandmother of
Madison, Mallory and Aleah Breen. She is
survived by her sister, Noreen; brother, Wally (Ethel); and
brother-in-law Ken (Trudi) Haslett; along with many nieces and
nephews.
Born in Milford, on the west side of Saint John, Lorraine –
or PeeWee – was Josephine and Edward Craig’s youngest
child. Predeceased by a sister, Bonnie and brothers, Gordon,
Hilyard, Buddy, and Bunky, Noreen and Wally remember her flair for
putting on performances in the barn, excelling in athletics at
Vocational School and her adventurous spirit. Time spent
with the Class of 54 and the Vocational School Alumni was important to
her and we appreciated the many visits she received while in
hospital.
Her earlier years were spent working at NBTel and the
Department of Revenue office, and her love of modeling and the Fundy
Frolics during that time gained her life-long friends. After
several years at home with her children she rejoined the workforce in
1974 at L. M. Berry. She was also a charter member of the
Ladies Barbershop Group and loved the years spent as a Sea
Belle.
Summers at Harding’s Point were favourite times
spent with good friends and her grandchildren. If she
wasn’t on her own deck you just had to follow the laughter
and you would find her with friends playing cards or entertaining the
girls with stories.
Having one hobby was not challenging enough for Lorraine. She
quilted, knit, crocheted, sewed, did puzzles and crafts, bowled,
played cards, collected stamps, and researched the family tree to name
just a few. If she liked something hand crafted, she would
teach herself how to do it.
She could get lost in an old movie that she had watched 20
times and the old Hollywood glam spoke to her spirit as a
dreamer. She loved to sing and dance and dress up so it was
a special event for her and those of us who got to watch her prepare
for a night out on the town. She was also
determined. After being diagnosed with
Parkinson’s, she set out to learn about it, become involved
with a support group and, with the help of a personal trainer, built
her strength to slow the progression of her
condition.
Lorraine was never content to do anything halfway.
We will miss her laughter, the way she enjoyed having fun and the way
she sparkled when she had everyone’s
attention.
Our most sincere thanks to the team at the Regional Hospital
5CS, and her pal Doug Collier. We will never forget the care
and compassion provided for both her and us.

pm. A Celebration of Lorraine’s life will be held
on Wednesday February 22nd at 11:00AM from
Brenan’s. For those who wish, remembrances to the
Parkinson Society, Vocational School Alumni, Cystic Fibrosis,
Bobby’s Hospice or any charity of the donor’s
choice would be appreciated by the family.
