Death Notice
SHAW, Dr. Robert McLean (Dr. Bob) – May 21,1924 – Dec. 21, 2016 died peacefully at University Hospital with family at his side. Bob was born in Woodstock, son of Clifford and Marjorie Shaw, he completed high school at Woodstock Collegiate in May, 1943 and immediately enlisted in the RCAF. Following WWII he attended University of Toronto Dental School and upon graduation established a successful general dentistry practice in London from 1950-1996. Highly respected for the quality and creativity of his work he was fondly known as « gentle dental » for compassionate care of his patients. Bob was a member of the London and District Dental Society and the Western Ontario Dental Study Group. He joined the London Curling Club, Sunningdale Golf and CC, in 1968 became a Charter Member of Beaver Valley Ski Club and later joined West Haven Golf and CC. His love of travel and determination took him to many destinations in Canada, United States, Europe, New Zealand and Australia. He will be greatly missed by son Eric (Marianne) their children Amanda and Andrew (Denise), daughter Maria (Dan) Mader and their children, Jason (Michelle), Benjamin (Alyshia), Anne Marie and David (Nicolle). Loving uncle of Charlene (Barry) Murray and daughter Mackenzie, nephews Ian (Carol), Andrew and Murray (Beth) Shaw, his special furry friends Katie and Rusty. Bob and his beloved wife Lynda shared 32 precious years of marriage. Predeceased by his first wife Billie and brother Douglas. He will be fondly remembered as a kind, caring man whose positive attitude influenced many. Lynda and family wish to thank those who provided in-home care for Bob in recent months, Charlene, Catharine, Lorena, Sabo, Dorothy and Nathaniel, Dr. K. Hamilton, Dr. Stack, Dr. Schultz and ICU Team, the EMS and doctors and nurses at University Hospital for their care and compassion. Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Bob’s life at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond on Friday Dec. 30th at 1 pm, with visitation preceding from 12 noon – 1 pm. Reception to follow at West Haven Golf and CC, until 4:30 pm. Inurnment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Animal Love Foundation, Salthaven Wildlife Centre, Dog Guides Canada or a charity of choice are appreciated. Addresses at www.HarrisFuneralHome.ca
