Obituary of Dr. G. Howard Thompson
Howard passed away peacefully at the Freeport Palliative Care of Grand River Hospital on Thursday, November 9, 2017 in his 90th year.
Dearly missed by his wife Lesley (nee Robins) Lynne-Davies, his family Susan (Michael) Krauss, Patricia (Marc) Inkol, Bruce (Cathy) Thompson, Brian Thompson and by Lesley’s family Tim Lynne-Davies (Tammy), Jonathan (Kelly) Lynne-Davies, Gillian (Peter) Sibenik, grandchildren Megan (Nick) Moniz and Jennifer Inkol, Scott (Lauren) Thompson and Sarah Thompson (John Halliwell), Rebecca Krauss; Michael, Sam and Rachael Lynne-Davies, Jasper and Josh Sibenik, great-grandchildren Brody Thompson, Harper Moniz and Lauren’s son Aiden, sister Margaret Hill and her family, and Lesley’s sisters Margaret Dromgoole and Ann Shaw and their families.
Predeceased by his first wife Helen Margaret Binning in 1996, parents Eleva and George Thompson of Windsor and Toronto, sister Marian (Vern) Nelson, and brother-in-law Calvin Hill.
Howard was born and raised in Windsor where he attended primary and secondary schools. He graduated from University of Western Ontario in Medicine in 1954. Following internship, he joined the Oshawa Clinic for one year and was a Family Physician in Kitchener-Waterloo from 1956 to 1993. He was certified in Family Medicine and was a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Western Ontario for several years.
Howard was a member of the Masonic Order, Lodge 539, the Kitchener-Conestoga Probus Club, Club Romeo (Retired Old Men Eating Out), the Torch Club, the Kiwanis Club, the Kitchener-Conestoga Rotary Club, and the Bamburg Hunt Club. He held a commission in the artillery and was a Reserve Officer in London, Ontario during his internship year and in the 12th Medical Company in Kitchener. Professionally, Howard belonged to the Ontario Medical Association, College of Family Physicians of Ontario, and was on staff at St. Mary’s and Grand River Hospitals.
His life time hobby was genealogy and in his younger years his interests were model railroading, golf and tennis, hunting at the Bamberg Game Farm, and cottage life at Kincardine with his family and friends. Since retiring, he and Lesley have enjoyed traveling.
Following cremation, a private family interment will be held at Woodland Cemetery, Kitchener. A memorial service to celebrate Howard’s life will be held in the chapel of the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. A reception will immediately follow the service in the funeral home’s Fireside Room.
