Douglas Madsen
1952-2017
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Doug Madsen on November 8, 2017.
Doug was born on June 28, 1952 and spent his childhood years living and working on the family farm in Paxson, AB. After graduating high school in 1970 Doug worked for Co-op food stores for 8 years with stops in Grand Centre, Rimbey and Forestburg before coming home to Boyle in 1977 and opening his first food store, Doug’s Bigway. Doug continued in the grocery store business as an owner, manager and then meat manager in his later years.
In October 2014 Doug was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Doug received treatments during the next three years, exceeding all expectations, while continuing to work, travel, and make lasting memories with family and friends. Doug succumbed to cancer on November 8th peacefully in the Boyle Health Care Centre surrounded by family in his final days.
Doug is pre-deceased by his father Hans. He is survived by his wife, Liz; sons, Mark (Sharla), Adam (Lisa), Norman (Christina), Keith (Megan); five grandchildren, Thomas, Erika, Chloe, James and William; mother, Sylvia; and sister, Lorraine (Les);. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Boyle Health Care Centre Auxiliary or St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.
Doug’s family would like to sincerely thank: Dr. Spratlin, Dr. Doman, the staff of the Boyle Health Care Centre, the Boyle Health Care Centre Auxillary, and Boyle Home Care for the outstanding care. We appreciate how supportive Alberta Health Services and Buy Low Foods in Boyle have been to Doug and Liz during this difficult time. We would also like to thank all extended family and friends for their continued love and support.
A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00pm on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at the St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, Boyle, AB.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am on Monday, November 13, 2017 at the Boyle Community Centre, Boyle, AB with Father Paul officiating. Interment to follow in Boyle Community Cemetery.
