Obituary Dode was born to Laurie Carl Johnson (Laitenen) and Clara Jesse Johnson in Superior, Wisconsin. She passed away at the University of Alberta Hospital, Edmonton of stroke complications. She was predeceased by husband Robert Kneeland Heule in 1990 and parents, LC Johnson (1977) and Clara Johnson (2002). She is survived by her children: Mark (Nancy) of Edmonton, Michael (Irene) of Calgary, and Laurie of Calgary; grandsons: Peter (Robyn) of Edmonton, Andrew (Katie) of Toronto, Rob and Jay of Calgary; brother, Laurie R. Johnson (Marilyn) of Tacoma, Washington; nieces, Janet of Arlington, Virginia and Kathy of Omaha, Nebraska. Dode was educated in Duluth, Minnesota completing a BA in Med Lab Science from the College of Ste. Scholastica in Duluth in 1947. She worked in hospital labs in St. Paul and Duluth. She married Bob Heule of Duluth on July 2, 1949 and moved with him to Naval Stations in Norfolk, Virginia and Kingston, Washington, before he took up his life employment with Lakehead and Interprovincial Pipe Lines. They resided in Bemidji, Minnesota, Superior, Wisconsin and Duluth, Minnesota before immigrating to Toronto in 1956. Edmonton became home in 1957. They lived in Oakville, Ontario from 1977 to 1991. She moved back to Edmonton into her dream house at Patricia Place where she resided until 2012. Subsequently she has been in assisted living at the Devonshire Manor. She was an accomplished seamstress and pastry chef, a good corporate wife, a connoisseur of modern furniture and architecture, a skilled knitter, rose gardener, downhill skier, enthusiastic traveler, and classical music patron. She provided selfless care to her husband in his final illness and her daughter in her chronic one. Above all she was wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Her family always came first. Special thanks to Dr. Abassi for her help and care and Lani G. and Russell C. of Devonshire who made the last 6 months much more tolerable for Dode. A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Robertson-Wesley United Church, 10209 – 123 Street NW, Edmonton at 1:00 p.m. Donations in memory of Dode may be made to the Robertson-Wesley United Church or the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.
