1924-2017
Dorothy Fay Beckwith (nee MacDonald) passed away peacefully on
Saturday, June 24, 2017 at the Carleton Manor in Woodstock. She was
born in Plaster Rock, New Brunswick on June 26, 1924, the daughter of
the late Emery and Helen (Chase) MacDonald. She was predeceased by
her husband Gerald and a sister Tena Sullivan.
Fay married Gerald Beckwith on June 27, 1946. They settled on the farm
in Knoxford, New Brunswick and together they raised two daughters
Cheryl Marie and Myrna Lynn. She worked for McCain Foods for over 25
years along with helping on the farm including canning, making bread,
butter, jams, jellies and pickles. Fay was an excellent cook and
welcomed family and friends into her home, whether for tea or a meal.
She was also active in Women’s Institute. She enjoyed attending
various functions in the area. You could say she was a «social
butterfly».
Fay had the pleasure of taking several trips to Florida with Gerald.
After his passing, she continued to travel to Florida with a special
friend, Irene. One highlight of her life was getting her
driver’s license at the age of 56. Another passion of hers was
her church family. She and Gerald travelled and sang in many churches
in New Brunswick & Maine. Fay truly loved her children,
grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Upon selling the farm in Knoxford, Fay moved to Centreville and began
apartment living. When her health declined, she lived in special care
homes and then at the Carleton Manor in Woodstock, where she spent the
last 5 years.
She is survived by her daughters Cheryl Cray and Myrna (Richard) Long.
Also surviving are loving grandchildren Wendy (Jim) VanAntwerp and son
Zachary; James (Roxanne) Cray and daughters Isabella and Makenzie;
Jeff (Jennifer) Cray; Mark (Susie) Long and daughter Mackenzie; Joe
Long, nieces, nephews, and special mention, former son-in-law, Jim
Cray.
Calling hours for friends and family will be held Friday, June 30th
from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, July 1st from 12 to 1 p.m. at the
Knoxford Praying Band Church, Knoxford, New Brunswick. The Funeral
Service will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Knoxford Praying
Band Church with Rev. Richard Bell and Pastor Carl O’Donnell
officiating.
Interment will be in the Lower Knoxford Cemetery following the
service. Donations may be made at to the Knoxford Praying Band Church,
the Gideons, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Giberson Funeral Directors,
207 Burnham Road, Florenceville-Bristol, N.B. Canada.
