Doris Kozub – 2017

DORIS FONTAINE-KOZUB
August 24, 1939 – May 25, 2017
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, elder, aunt and best friend Doris Fontaine-Kozub on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Arborg, Manitoba after a short battle with pneumonia, a complication of her cancer treatment, Mom left us.
Doris Kozub (nee: Fontaine) was born on August 24, 1939 in Fort Alexander, Manitoba and raised in Bissett by her parents Anthony (Tony) and Martha (nee: Bunn) Fontaine. In 1960, she moved to Riverton after meeting Wilfred Kozub, they married at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral in Winnipeg in 1961. After raising her children, she started working with Hecla Provincial Park in 1977 in Hecla, Manitoba where she stayed for 27 seasons retiring in 2004.
Doris was predeceased by her parents Tony and Martha (nee: Bunn) Fontaine; brothers Ernie, Larry and Russell; sisters Edna, Evelyn and Joanie; mother and father-in-law Ted and Anne Kozub.
Left to mourn her passing are her children, Lance (Linda), Dean (Kim) and Roxanne (Ed); her treasured grandchildren, Ryan, Kayla, Stacey, Brent, Kaden, Dennon and her precious great-grandchildren Caleb and Olivia. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and colleagues.
Doris loved to cook and share her kitchen goodies far and wide but especially with her family serving up her ‘Special Big Breakfast’ when they came to visit. She was an avid curler for many years in Riverton and the local area, and Loved It, winning numerous bonspiels and awards. She also loved to play BINGO, battling many storms to get to the games. She truly enjoyed her the many travels with her family, the Friendship Centre and the Fellowship Circle through out the years.
Over her lifetime Doris was a driving force in the growth of many endeavours in Riverton and the surrounding area, through lending her name to new activities as a founding member. One such organization was the Riverton and District Friendship Centre where she served many years on the Board of Directors, most recently as the Vice President. Doris was a founding member and current President of the Riverton Fellowship Circle, and a founding member of the Unified Veterans of Manitoba. For many years Doris was a loving volunteer at the Riverton Collegiate Breakfast Program where she brought smiles to the children as well as a warm breakfast. As a tireless volunteer at the RDFC Food Bank she filled many boxes with nourishment and health supplies for those who used the service. Doris had put in a full day of work at the food bank the week before she left us. Throughout her life Doris was a tireless volunteer for any community activity, party or event that she was asked to help with. She gave of herself freely and passionately, at times to the determent of her personal health and well-being. But that was Mom! Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her world, a world she would do anything for with out hesitation. Special thanks to Dear Friend Tanis Grimolfson for not leaving her side and the Arborg Hospital & staff for all their care.
Cremation has taken place with a memorial service will be held on Friday, June 2, 2017 at the Riverton Community Hall at 1:00 pm. Followed by a light lunch prepared in loving memory of Doris by the Community. A private interment will take place later date.
Honourary Pallbearers will be Emily Collins, Joyce Monkman, Stanley Bilinski, Pat Palsson, Russell Collins, Josie Bruce, Joan Kozub, Tanis Grimolfson and Anik Deri.
In lieu of flowers, donations made in her memory to the Riverton and District Friendship Centre Programs, P.O. Box 359, Riverton, MB R0C 2R0, or a charity of your choice.
If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane,
I’d walk right up to Heaven and bring you home again.
