Obituary
Doreen passed away peacefully on Friday, December 30, 2016.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years William John O’Callaghan, her six children:Bill (Jackie), Craig (Carolyn), John (Daniela), Carol Boulanger (Matthew), Tara, Sheilagh (Perry), and 10 grandchildren, with one great grandchild due in February. She was predeceased by her parents David and Ida Gardiner and brother Robert. Doreen achieved a Diploma of Nursing in 1960, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education in 1961, and a Bachelor of Arts in 1978 from the University of Alberta. Doreen spent many years volunteering at Edmonton City Hall and The Alberta Legislature. Her Work was recognized in 1995when she was selected as a Volunteer of the Year. She was presented with an award and medal at a special ceremony in Ottawa. Doreen was also an accomplished author of a celiac cookbook.
A Prayer service will be held at Connelly McKinley, 10011−114 Street Edmonton Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 7:00 pm. The funeral will be at St. Joseph’s Basilica, 10044−113 Street Edmonton on January 6, 2017 at 2:00 pm. A Christian burial will follow after the service at St. Joachim’s cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sign of Hope through Catholic Social Services.
