Donald A. MacInnis, 79
Sydney Mines
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful loving husband, father and grandfather, Donald A. MacInnis, on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at home, surrounded by his family.
Born in Sydney Mines on August 29, 1937, he was the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Murphy) MacInnis.
Donnie worked for many years with the Cape Breton Development Corporation. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 8, Sydney Mines. Donnie had a true passion for harness racing. In his earlier years, he owned and raced several horses, and enjoyed spending time at the track.
For the last 24 years, Donnie enjoyed camping at St Ann’s Campground with his many friends; cooking chips for the campers, and a good game of cards.
He enjoyed his daily routine, a visit to the coffee shop and Joe Peck’s garage to chat with his buddies.
Left to mourn his passing is his beloved wife Shelia (Boutilier), his son Troy, daughter-in-law Amy, and his precious grandchildren Jorja, Jax and Jovi. He is also survived by his brother Ian (Nancy), sisters-in-law Linda MacInnis, Ethel Thorn, Dolores (Dave) Howley, and Veralynn (Clarence) Hill, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved bulldog Fergus.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Joseph, David and Greg, and his brother-in-law Pete Thorn.
There will be no visitation by his request. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass to celebrate Donnie’s life will take place Monday, November 28, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Family Church, with Fr. James Oliver officiating. . A luncheon will be served following the mass, at the parish hall. The family would like to make special thanks to Louise McKeough, Dr. Michel McKeough, and Cathy MacMillian, for their care and compassion.
